Treatment
The first step is to book an assessment consultation with our specialist consultant psychiatrist, Dr Adrienne Key. Depending on this assessment she will tailor an appropriate package for each individual patient. She has a small number of trusted specialist clinicians she refers to and these may include a dietitian, psychotherapist, psychologist or family therapist. Implementing a combined approach that includes both psychological and dietetic support is crucial in tackling these illnesses effectively. Assessment and monitoring of both physical and emotional wellbeing throughout treatment is important and we carry out regular team reviews to ensure this.
We understand that the levels of distress involved are often severe, both to the patient and their family. We offer practical advice and information for providing meals and eating with the patient at home, as well as coping with the inevitable conflict in families and close relationships that eating disorders can generate.
GLP-1 Support & Monitoring
GLP-1 receptor agonists (Mounjaro, Wegovy and Liraglutide) are increasingly prescribed for weight management and metabolic conditions. For people with a history of eating disorders these require careful clinical consideration. Changes in appetite, restrictive eating patterns, and a renewed focus on weight can interact with eating disorder pathology in complex ways. Our team can provide specialist assessment and monitoring for patients currently taking or considering GLP-1 medication, working alongside your prescribing clinician to ensure your mental and physical health are both protected.
Neurodiversity & Eating Disorders
Research shows a significant overlap between eating disorders and neurodiversity, particularly ADHD and autism spectrum conditions. Sensory sensitivities, interoceptive differences, demand avoidance patterns, and difficulties with routine and flexibility can all contribute to disordered eating or make standard treatment approaches less effective. Our team has extensive experience in working with neurodivergent individuals and we adapt treatment accordingly, drawing on approaches that account for both the eating disorder and the underlying neurodiversity profile.
